Chapter Fourteen

Mai eased the truck onto the blacktop. The road glittered under the moonlight.

“You need to watch for deer.” Dale shifted in her seat and the hem of her dress pulled up, exposing her thighs as she slipped off her pumps.

The moon rode the edge of the trees that crowded the road and Mai stole glances at Dale. She had tucked one leg under her, and the hem of her dress was tight over her legs and exposed the top edge of her thigh highs. The rough sound of the rumble strip alerted Mai, and she focused her attention on the road.

“Am I distracting you?” Dale’s honeyed tones raised the hairs on Mai’s arms.

“Yes.”

Dale’s rested her palm on Mai’s knee before she leaned closer and she traced her fingertips over the back of Mai’s neck, making her shiver. “Sorry. Do you want me to stop?”

Mai swallowed hard. “No. Yes. Maybe not while I’m driving.”

Dale drew her hand away from Mai’s neck. “Take the next left.”

Mai glanced at Dale. “This is the way to the lake, isn’t it?”

“It is.” She stripped off her thigh highs and tucked them into her pumps.

Dale leaned back in the seat and slid her hand over Mai’s thigh, the heat from her palm searing. A trickle of desire wet Mai’s briefs and she gripped the wheel tighter. She slowed the truck and made the turn onto the dirt road leading to the lake. Popular in her time in high school with those inclined to party and make out, the rough condition of the road and the high weeds growing between the wheel tracks were shaggy evidence of the spot’s decline in popularity.

Mai drove slowly, dodging the deeper ruts in the two-wheel track. A dense wood ran alongside the road. Tall trees blocked the moonlight and she switched the headlights to high beam. The trees thinned and a wide grass field ended in a lake. A weathered dock jutted out into the dark water.

Moonlight reflected off the water and lit the field. Mai parked the truck on the grass and pulled the keys from the ignition. The snick of her seat belt as it unfastened echoed in the truck. Dale’s palm cupped the back of Mai’s neck and she brushed her thumb over the short hairs there.

Mai turned in her seat to face Dale. One hand on the top of the wheel, she leaned in and brushed her lips over hers before she pulled back to look into her eyes. “You sure?”

“Very.” Dale tugged Mai close and kissed her as her fingers tightened on Mai’s neck. She sighed into Mai’s mouth. The soft sound washed over Mai and swept away her doubts.

Mai wrapped her arms around Dale and deepened their kiss as she drowned in the welcoming wet heat of Dale’s mouth. Teasing touches of her fingers as she stroked the back of Mai’s neck made her tremble.

Mai pulled back to look into Dale’s eyes. “This console is digging into my ribs.” She drew back and reached under her seat and moved the seat as far as it would go.
